JOB SUMMARY
ScholarMatch is seeking an outstanding candidate to join their dynamic team as a Human Resource Specialist in San Francisco with regular travel (once a month) to their Los Angeles office. This position reports to the Executive Director and will manage key human resource functions for the organization, including: recruitment, benefits, compliance, employee relations, and policies. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned HR professional who is skilled in project management and works well in a fast-paced environment.

ScholarMatch focuses focus on what students need most: hands-on help applying to college, financial assistance that removes barriers to graduation, and a support system through college. With a unique, community-centered approach, ScholarMatch programs change the trajectory of students’ lives by matching them with volunteers, resources, and a community that cares. ScholarMatch has teams based in both San Francisco and Los Angeles.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising Strategy & Vision:

Serve as a thought partner for the strategic planning as it pertains to HR implementation.

Oversee all core aspects of HR for a team of approximately 30 people based in two home offices in San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Schedule regular travel to maintain a presence in LA office.

Develop and implement staff policies and procedures; maintain and update the staff handbook.

Provides oversight for organizational growth and hiring, with contractor support for recruitment, hiring, and onboarding.

Maintain HR databases and systems ensuring data is accurate and up-to-date.

Manage benefits administration, including processing enrollments, claims, and policy renewals.

Serve as the point of contact for employee relations and respond to questions about staff policies, benefits, or concerns. Support resolution of questions and concerns.

Support employee evaluation processes with oversight, implementation and scheduling.

Support new employee orientation to ensure employees understand all organization benefits and policies.

Maintain current knowledge of compliance requirements and oversee systems to ensure compliance for organization and government policies.

Support organizational goals for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion as it pertains to HR operations.

Prepare, review, and submit annual employment and compliance reports (e.g. IRS Form 5500) as needed.

Run payroll and benefits payments.

Participate in team and department meetings as assigned

Participate in team offsite retreats as scheduled

Attend organizational events as appropriate

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree required

5-7 years experience in leading HR in similar-sized company or larger

High degree of professionalism and outstanding communication skills

Experience with and excitement for building out systems

Desire to work in a fast-paced environment with a rapidly growing team

COMPENSATION
The salary for this position is consistent with that of small grassroots non-profit organizations, and commensurate with relevant experience and expertise ($85,000-$105,000 DOE). ScholarMatch offers a robust and competitive benefits package including generous PTO, health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), 401k with company match, transit benefits, professional development and wellbeing support, and a paid sabbatical after 5 years on. This is a full-time, exempt position.
• Hours: traditional business hours with occasional evening and weekend events. Occasional travel required.
