Overview

Making Cents International is a results-driven women-owned small business founded on the principles of social entrepreneurship. Since their founding in 1999, Making Cents has been fostering human potential and promoting economic opportunities for disadvantaged populations around the world. They have implemented more than 130 projects in over 60 countries to date, including in Jordan. Making Cents provides targeted technical assistance to local enterprises helps them increase their competitiveness and develop market linkages with other value chain actors. They equip aspiring entrepreneurs with the tools they need to identify and take advantage of viable business opportunities and successfully navigate the market.

Making Cents is recruiting for a Chief of Party for an anticipated USAID-funded Jordan Enterprise Support activity (JESA). The project will support the private sector and the Government of Jordan (GOJ) to overcome growth impediments. The goal is that Jordan's private sector firms, specifically micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), become more competitive through improving productivity, profitability, strategic planning for growth, and increasing sales and employment where feasible. In addition, it is expected that JESA will support improvements to the business enabling environment to facilitate access to markets as well as to support investment facilitation to encourage the shift from the informal to formal sector.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Chief of Party will be responsible for overall project leadership, management, technical direction, oversight, quality, and maintaining relationships with USAID and key local stakeholders.

  • Provide strategic oversight and technical direction for the project

  • Oversee all technical and management inputs to ensure achievement of project objectives

  • Lead work planning and financial planning and provide quality control of all deliverables

  • Serve as the primary point of contact with USAID and key stakeholders, including GOJ counterparts and the private sector

  • Oversee all project operations, staff, and subcontractors

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in international development, economics, or other relevant field

  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible management experience in international development, with previous experience as a Chief of Party on a USAID project preferred

  • Expertise and experience working with the private sector in Jordan

  • Understanding of Jordan’s business environment and barriers to MSME growth

  • Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, and the ability to collaborate with the GOJ and key local stakeholders

  • Strong oral and written communication skills

  • Strong leadership, team building, and mentorship skills

  • Fluency in English and Arabic
