Project Director for USAID Bednet Distribution Project in DRC

IMA World Health (IMA) is a faith-based non-profit organization that implements donor-funded health systems strengthening, maternal and child health, neglected tropical disease, malaria, HIV, non-communicable diseases, and sexual- and gender-based violence prevention programming in some of the most challenging settings throughout Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. IMA maintains a diverse and complex funding portfolio made up of both donor-funded grants and contracts that support program services across those countries and totals approximately $100 million annually.  

IMA is seeking applications for a Project Director for an anticipated USAID Bednet Distribution Project in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The project will support the National Malaria Control Program (NMCP) in the DRC to achieve its goal of universal coverage with insecticide treated nets (ITNs). The Project Director will provide overall leadership, management, coordination, and oversight of the programmatic and operational side of the activity. S/he will be responsible for technical leadership and administrative oversight of the program and will serve as the principal institutional liaison to the donor and local government entities.

 

Duties:

  • Provide overall leadership and supervision of all project activities, including contractors and project personnel.

  • Serve as the key liaison with USAID, government counterparts, and other partners involved with this activity.

  • Serve as the primary person responsible for overseeing the full-time and short-term technical assistance personnel and directing program management and operations, including financial management, cost control, partner management, program planning, performance monitoring, financial reporting, and client relations.

  • Ensure the achievement of project results and identify issues and risks related to activity implementation in a timely manner, and suggest appropriate activity adjustments.

  • Lead project work planning and oversee quality and timely reporting on project activities/progress according to the work plan.

 

The position requires a competent and experienced person with the following attributes:

  • A minimum of a Master’s Degree (or foreign equivalent) in international development, public/business administration, international relations, other social sciences, or a similar relevant field.

  • Relevant management, supervisory, and technical experience working with activities that are of a similar scope and scale to this activity.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in complex, politically charged environments and manage diverse teams to deliver impact within agreed timelines.

  • Supply chain management and public health experience in the DRC or other African countries

  • Experience in Africa, and the DRC or other fragile or conflict-affected countries is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong teams and relationships with host-country counterparts, stakeholders, and other donors.

  • English/French language skills at a proficiency level that allows professional communication, orally and in writing, with local counterparts and USAID personnel.
