SUMMARY
Arizona State University is seeking an experienced Technical Advisor to be part of the USAID-funded Egypt Center of Excellence for Energy (COE) project. The COE project is a partnership between ASU-US and three Egyptian partner universities (EPUs): Ain Shams University, Aswan University, and Mansoura University. The COE goal is to improve the capacity of Egypt’s higher education institutions to drive public and private sector innovation, modernization, and competitiveness; strengthen government policy to stimulate economic growth; and contribute solutions to Egypt’s development challenges in the energy sector. The Technical Advisor will assist the Center Director in implementing a wide range of research and academic programs in Energy for COE. The Technical Advisor will work closely with the COE Project Director and In-Country Director, and the faculty at ASU and Egyptian partner COE Team. The Technical Advisor will also interface with USAID and the COE stakeholders and partners in the Egypt energy sector.
Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and assist the COE activities including all activity components: curriculum, labs research, workshops, stakeholders and industry interactions, strategic plan, exchange program, and other academic and technical activities under the Center’s director and in-country director

Serve as liaison between the Egyptian universities’ faculty and ASU faculty.

Assist in the development and implementation of strategic plan and roadmap through interactions faculty, industry leaders, GoE, ministries, and other stakeholders.

Develop a network with Egypt’s energy industry and government partners to support the Center.

Directly manage curriculum related work: assessment, identification of new courses and labs, technical reviews of curricula; organize and attend related stakeholders committee meetings related to curriculum.

Identify key research areas, direct and manage process related to new research projects (review/assessment/implementation); coordinate technical reviews of research projects; organize and attend committee meetings related to research deliverables.

Provide technical assistance to exchange program process (review/interview/technical support/orientation) together with ASU/EPU deans, faculty, committees. Hold regular quarterly meetings with students/faculty of exchange program.

Assist in the development of center sustainability strategy including technical, marketing, and implementation plan.

Identify and establish energy industry activities and relationships

Assist in certificate programs, workshops, proposals, etc. to support the center and the development of technology center.

Provide technical support to the development and facilitation of technical seminars and workshops in Egypt.

Draft short reports summarizing technical workshop and meetings with Egyptian university faculty, industry representatives and stakeholders.

Identify and organize internships with Egypt’s energy industry for Egyptian university students.

Provide support to MEL activities: meeting summaries, emails, reports, correspondence, assist and review quarterly reports.

Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

PhD in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or other energy related areas

Minimum five (5) years of academic experience

Preferred 5 years of industrial or equivalent experience in the energy sector.

Strong research experience in energy areas.

Active research in the energy area with strong publication record.

Familiarity with Egyptian universities and energy sector.

Experience with curriculum development, and other energy areas.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced dynamic environment subject to quickly changing priorities and potentially conflicting deadlines.

Language Proficiency: Level IV English and fluent Arabic required.
Working Environment:

This position will interact with administrators, faculty, and students working at COE. May travel to various locations within Egypt
